Yesterday was a chilly day, but the turnout for the annual Rosary for Life was nothing short of heartwarming. The cold didn’t deter hundreds of people from coming to Tyson Park off Concord Street in Knoxville, across from the infamous Volunteer Women’s Medical Center where abortions are routinely performed. This is the site for many peaceful demonstrations sponsored by the Diocese of Knoxville in witness to the sanctity of life, including the annual 40 Days for Life where a group meets daily at the site. Here’s the link to my photos from the event. A slideshow of all the photos can be found at the bottom of the post.
Yesterday’s prayers were expected to be led by Bishop Richard Stika, however a death in his family called him away to the funeral. In his place, Cardinal Justin Rigali presided. He retired last year and moved to Knoxville to take up his residence.
We are so blessed to have Cardinal Rigali in the area as he is still active and participates in many events around the diocese. In fact, Cardinal Rigali joined Bishop Stika for the ground breaking ceremony for the new parish life center being constructed at our parish this past September. We are all so happy to have Bishop Stika’s mentor live out his retirement within our diocese.
