Blogging, yes! Facebook, not so much.

Blogging, yes! Facebook, not so much.

Every now and then I wonder why I spend so much time on Facebook and no time blogging. This morning I realized that my last post on Big Bald Guy was in February 2012! Christine and I were discussing how we use Facebook and whether or not it’s an effective way to record and share life’s events. While we both think Facebook is a pretty good place to see photos from our family and friends, it’s also a huge waste of time where you have to…

The Big Bald Guy is Back!

My hiatus from BigBaldGuy, if anyone noticed, has been due to spending a lot of my time working on St. Mary’s website, as well as getting the site up for my new venture. Yes, I’ve been busy with other priorities but now I’m back. I thought the release of WordPress 3.0 would be as good a time as any to renew my commitment to posting regularly about my interests in all things geek, gadgets and social media. The date of my last post on BigBaldGuy.com…

Blowing Rain Knocks Down Large Oak Tree

There had been tornado warnings in the area yesterday with forecasted storms and strong wind. Up until mid-afternoon all we experienced was some light rain. Then it happened. The rain started to pour down and the wind was driving it through our valley diagonally. I grabbed the video camera and shot this video (watch to the end): As I was returning the camera to it’s stand, I heard a loud crash. Turning around I saw one of our big oak…

Bye, Bye Boris

Sadly we decided to sell Boris yesterday. Happily, he went to an awesome home that already has an active “work program” for 10 other dromedaries. Check out this video of these gentle giants who will be living with Boris at his new home. Click the YouTube logo to watch it on YouTube, where you can view it in high quality. It’s much better viewing that way if you have a high speed Internet connection: Christine will tell you that Boris…

The Dreaded Colonoscopy

Today I begin my preparations for tomorrow’s colonoscopy. It’s not a fun prep, but it’s absolutely necessary for the surgeon to get a good look at my inner plumbing. Nothing to eat today, other than clear liquids. The worst part is the solution I start to drink at noon that will keep me very close to the toilet for the rest of the day. It’s all part of the cleansing process for this important screening procedure that seeks to find…

Relaxation and Turkey Soup

Merry Christmas! Yes, it’s still Christmas for us Catholics. We celebrate the Christmas feast for a full 12 days, ending with the Epiphany of our Lord next Sunday. This is the period of time the well-known song, The Twelve Days of Christmas, celebrates. We’re enjoying a lazy, relaxing day today having attended vigil Mass last night. I got my 2 miles in on the treadmill this morning, updated the web site and now I’m making one of my favorites, turkey…

Peacock Feather Earrings

Our neighbor gave Christine a personalized gift for Christmas that’s as creative and unique a gift as I’ve ever seen. She took a picture of each of our male and female peacocks and placed them on the top of two small boxes. Inside each box was a pair of handmade earrings made from their feathers.  She found the feathers on our barn floor. Are these cool, or what? Click on the picture for a larger image.

Merry Christmas!

I’m downing my third Chimay Belgium Trappist Ale, a Christmas gift from our office manager Peter. I believe it’s only appropriate to drink an ale made by Trappist monks on Christmas eve, don’t you? We attended the Christmas vigil Mass today and we’ll be cooking the turkey in the morning. Friends will be coming to share the day with us tomorrow and it’s going to be just perfect. The only thing missing is the kids and grandkids. Maybe next year.…
